About us: In the words of Vernon
Coleman, an expert on mind matters, "in some ways,
largely material, we are richer than our ancestors. In
other ways - largely spiritual - we are infinitely poorer.
We have created a world in which we cannot cope without
artificial aids. Loneliness, anxiety and depression are
now more common than at any time in the history of
mankind".
One need not be an intellectual or a philosopher to recall
countless occasions in our own lives to attest what
Coleman said. But then, why is it so? Why can't we, with
all our cleverness and smartness, work out a mindset
package for ourselves that will guarantee inner peace and
balance?
We at Shastri Memorial Foundation believe that it is
possible for us to find answers for these questions. We
also believe that these answers should be customized for
the individual as well as synergized for social behavior.
Pt K A Sivaramakrishna Shastri
(1899-1984) was a man given to simple living and high
thinking. He walked his talk throughout life: 'if you want
to think high, you have to live simple; if you lived high,
you could only think simple'. He became a Shastri by
learning, not by birthright. After retiring as faculty
member at Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu, Pt Shastri was
asked to take over the editorship of the encyclopedic
effort on Sanksrit that was going on in Deccan College,
Pune, for decades. He was honored with the Rashtrapati
Award for lifetime contribution to Sanskrit and Indian
values in 1977. Till his last breath, he was a true Karma
Yogi, teaching, writing, thinking, and adding value to
himself and others around him.
Shastriji and his wife Sharadaji were blessed with five
sons and two daughters. The youngest of them, Dr S
Srinivasan, established this foundation in 2001, with a
view to serving the community in the areas of healthcare,
education and human values.
Dr Srinivasan obtained his MBBS and MD (Pharmacology) from
the University of Pune in the 1960s. He was an academician
for nearly a decade, half of which he spent as faculty
member at CWRU School of Medicine, Cleveland, Ohio, USA.
He worked as the medical / medico-marketing director of
many healthcare companies in India for nearly a quarter
century, serving last as Senior Vice President with
Aventis, Mumbai.
Dr Srinivasan is a natural orator, writer, motivator and
facilitator. He has authored 'health @ your finger tips',
a practical and reader-friendly book that blends all
aspects of health in the modern world and is targeted at
today's busy professional / executive. His two other books
on value-based management and wholesome wellness for the
service sector executive are to be released in the coming
year. His musical profile is presented elsewhere in this
website. Dr Srinivasan's classmate-wife, Dr Usha, cancer
pathologist, nature lover, watercolor artiste and
humanist, supports him to the hilt in all his efforts.
Their two sons and daughters-in-law are busy with their
own executive careers in India and abroad.
