Entertainment unlimited, 37,500 gifts and 1,500 smiling faces. That, in short, is what the World's largest Diwali Party is all about!
For the last 27 years, the citizens and corporates of Mumbai have generously shared their Diwali joy with thousands of children of Mumbai, for whom Diwali had little meaning otherwise. This year too, we request you to participate wholeheartedly in this annual event and host with us Mumbai's largest Diwali Party.
Enclosed is a summary of the program to be held in end October. Your contributions could include gifts to form a part of the take-away gift hamper given to each child or any monetary contribution towards the event. For more information, please contact Sumangali or Gool Patel or visit www.diwaliparty.org.
Contributions must be sent to the address below, in favour of 'Madhu Mehta Foundation', preferably by September 2004. All donations are exempt under section 80-G.
MUMBAI'S LARGEST DIWALI PARTY - PROGRAM DETAILS
The event starts with a big party at the Birla Kreeda Kendra, Chowpatty on a Satruday evening followed by a host of small Diwali parties at individual institutions like:
1. Umerkhadi Remand Home
2. David Sassoon Remand Home
Our guests are treated to specially prepared snacks and large gift hampers as they settle down to enjoy live singing (Hindi Film Songs) by a professional Orchestra or the screening of a comedy Hindi Film.
The Big Diwali Party at Birla Kreeda Kendra: 750 children from various organizations including Children Aid Society (Chembur Children's Home), Manav Seva Samaj, Shraddhanand Mahila Ashram, Root Cause (Tardeo Municipal School), Bombay Vigilance Association, Sirur Balak Ashram, Akanksha, National Sponsorship Council, Thelma JRD Tata Anand Kendra Trust, Dadar School for the Blind, 'Make A Wish' Foundation and Community Outreach Program (CORP) attend this party.
Our special guests are treated to a variety entertainment program performed by professionals and film stars and a talent parade for them to showcase their own dancing and singing skills. A sumptuous sit-down banquet is laid out and the evening comes to a close with fireworks and large gift hampers for each guest.
Snacks provided at each institution usually comprise savories, sweetmeats, fresh fruits and packaged juices. The Gujarati 'thali' dinner at the Party is prepared by Thackers and served at the sit down banquet at Birla Kreeda Kendra. Sponsorship of food (snacks and dinner) is by way of monetary contribution from individual and corporate donors.
2000 gift hampers are distributed amongst the residents of the host institutions and at the party itself. Each hamper contains items of daily use and entertainment: toys, napkins, soap dishes, soaps, tooth paste and tooth brushes, sparklers, games, caps, bags, sweets, etc. Corporates provide us with items manufactured/procured by them or the monetary contribution from individual sponsors is collected to procure these gifts.
Music, singing, dancing, film screening, film stars, mimicry, magic shows - these are all part of the entertainment for the guests at the party. Corporates and individuals make monetary contributions towards the entertainment package. We also sometimes request film stars to grace the occasion for a few minutes to say a few encouraging words to the children.
