CANCER PATIENTS AID ASSOCIATION
CPAA was started in 1969 mainly to provide financial assistance to needy cancer patients. Over the last thirty years the organisation has expanded its mission to address the root cause of the exponential increase in cancer cases in India, namely that of lack of knowledge and information. CPAA does not treat cancer but complements the work being done by medical practitioners and hospitals, concentrating on education and awareness, early detection, insurance, support to treatment, guidance and counseling and rehabilitation or “Total Management of Cancer”. It has grown from a tiny Mumbai based organisation surviving on small donations to one with branches in Delhi, Bangalore and Pune. CPAA draws its entire annual budget from corporate and individual donations.
Cancer Patients Aid Association (CPAA) is a registered charitable non-governmental organisation (NGO) working towards the “Total Management of Cancer” as a disease, which includes:
q Spreading awareness on the dangers inherent in accepted social practices such as chewing of tobacco, early marriage and multiple pregnancies, which are responsible for approximately 70% of cancers in India.
q Initiating steps for the early detection of cancer since treatment at this stage leads to a cure in a majority of cases.
q Providing complete assistance to cancer patients beyond that given by the medical profession, that is, taking a holistic approach, not attacking the malignancy in isolation.
Our activities encompass every area related to cancer, including raising awareness, early detection, insurance, patient care, medical and financial aid and rehabilitation.
In order to raise awareness about what lifestyles can result in an increased risk of contracting cancer, CPAA conducts lectures in schools, colleges, factories, residential localities, clubs, etc.
CPAA holds regular, free Cancer Screening OPDs at the addresses below.
In a tie-up with New India Assurance, CPAA provides insurance coverage against costs incurred for treatment of cancer.
The activities covered by the patient care department range from Budgeted Aid to Transportation Assistance to Playgroup at Ernest Borges Home and providing Prostheses (artificial body parts).
CPAA rehabilitates patients and their relatives, producing a number of high quality items for every day use.
