About Us: About Aadhaar
Aadhaar has been started with the sole purpose of ultimately
providing the following services -
Immediate Goals
a. Listening Service for the Depressed, Distressed or Suicidal
Caller
b. Consultancy and Training to other similar NGO's / Helplines
c. Act as volunteer recruiting agency for other NGO's / Helplines
d. Regular seminars / talks / newsletters on mental health
issues
Long Term Goals
e. Specialized Focused Listening Service for groups such as

1. Senior Citizens
2. Teenagers
3. Alcoholics
4. Substance Abuse
5. Medi Care
f. Crisis Intervention Services by associating with emergency
services groups like police, fire brigade and ambulance services
g. Associate with hospitals, schools and colleges
h. Work towards creating a Shelter for Senior Citizens
Vision: We want Mumbai to be a mentall health aware city which
cares for citizens who are undergoing distress, depression
or suicidal thoughts.
Mission: We hope to achieve our mission through help from
like minded Volunteers and Philantropists willing to support
our cause

Impact:
History: Aadhaar has been started in August 2005. The promoters
are volunteers of long standing from a similar listening service
which runs in the city of Mumbai. Aadhaar has a vision that
goes beyond the scope of simply providing Listening Services
which other such Helplines provide. Aadhaar hopes to ultimately
provide various types of support systems required for any
kind of caller with mental health issues or simple distress
or depression. This was the raison d'etre for starting Aadhaar.
Projects/Achievements:
What is it that you exactly do for a beneficiary?: We allow
the caller to vent their feelings which hey may be finding
difficult to do with their family or friends. We listen, we
care, we understand. And we try to assist the caller in understanding
their situation and what best they can do to help themselves
How can you work with others? : We can talk to each of these
organizations about the importance of mental health in schols,
workplace and at home. We can also talk of the importance
of support systems that can be set up with our assistance
in workplaces, schools and colleges.

A
Vision takes shape …
The
city of Mumbai
has a fair number of Helplines dedicated to
definite issues ranging from –
ü
Suicide, Depression & Distress
üTeenagers
üHIV/Aids
üThallassemia
üCancer
These
Helplines are usually very well equipped with Volunteers
and Professional Staff to handle the medical aspects of
care.
They
lack the expertise and infrastructure to deal with the mental
trauma and distress of the patients and their immediate
family members.
All
of these Helplines are dependent on the services provided
by Volunteers who are willing to give of their time to these
organizations free of cost. The motivation of these volunteer’s
stems from their need to do something socially relevant
and therefore enrich their own lives while helping those
in need. Needless to say that volunteer retention is an
issue that most helplines grapple with unsuccessfully. Changing
volunteer priorities and often, geographical job movements
ensure that the Helplines are in a permanent need of volunteers,
training and refreshers.
Aadhaar
came into existence after looking at these and other related
aspects of NGO’s and Helplines. Aadhaar will function
as an independent Helpline and also provide its expertise
and services to NGO’s and other helplines in need of such
services.
