Rain
Water Harvesting- The RI Thrust Area for 2004-05 was identified
in 2003-04 by our District. Twenty five Clubs have taken up seriously
to help clusters of villages at various locations at about 2-3 hour
drive distances from Mumbai at Karjat, Khopoli, Mangaon and others.
The Project cost varies between Rs. 1.25 lacs to Rs. 5-7 lacs depending
on the number of villages, capacity of the water storage created
etc. At least 15-20000 villagers have been benefited. This project
is continued by many clubs.
The
changes in the villages we have seen are sometimes unbelievable.
There is reverse migration due to better opportunities in villages
for Educated villagers who were previously trying to settle in Metros.
Women who were previously spending more time just fetching water,
have time to indulge in productive, creative, remunerative activities
as well as educating themselves and taking care of their families.
We are looking for financial and
other support, etc.
