Forming a Local Area Citizen Group (LACG)
The
Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (BMC - Brihanmumbai Municipal
Corporation) has notified the “Charter for the MCGM-Local Area
Citizen Group Partnership 2006” with effect from 1st
April 2006. The Charter invites citizen groups to become formal
partners of the MCGM through a sustainable & institutional
mechanism involving various activities concerning civic issues.
A
Local Area Citizen Group (LACG) is defined as a group of owners or
occupiers of residential, commercial and/or institutional premises of
a defined geographical area, who have come together and are recognized
as formal partners of the MCGM to enable better delivery of civic
services and provision of civic infrastructure in that area.
Activities
that an LACG can take up range from survey, planning &
implementation, awareness creation, monitoring, joint working with
MCGM, communication to and from citizens, etc. This would not however
absolve MCGM from fulfilling its duties.

Please also find enclosed the Summary of the Charter, for your quick
reference.
To
ensure that our area benefits from the above concept, it is
appropriate that we take up this responsibility and form our own LACG
to address the various civic issues concerning our locality.
I
am a resident of the area and hence would like to take the initiative
of forming an LACG that would cover the area under Ward ___,
Councillor Ward ___ and LACG Area __. This has been highlighted in the
enclosed area map.
I
would be grateful if you could send me your Letter of Support for the
same, in the format enclosed, at the earliest possible.
If
you wish to be actively involved in the functioning of this LACG,
please do let me know.
