SNEHA is an ngo based in Dharavi, Mumbai working in the area of public health.

Position: Research Co-ordinator
Project: City Initiative for Newborn Health (CINH)
Responsible to: Director Programs

•PhD or Masters with commensurate research experience in statistics public health, community medicine and/ or epidemiology
•Minimum 4 to 5 years of research experience

•In-depth knowledge of issues related to health in urban slums and ideally with maternal and newborn issues
•Professional experience in research in the above fields, with a proven publication record
•Experience with data management and statistical software
•Proficiency with computer applications including MS Office
•Ability to work independently as well as a demonstrated capacity to function as a member of a team
•Strong written and oral skills in English and Hindi are essential, proficiency in Marathi is desirable
•Ability to explain research concepts and build capacity at all levels


•Conduct background literature review and assist in research protocol development of the CINH project
•Develop research designs to achieve objectives
•Design, pre-test and finalize qualitative and quantitative data collection instruments as needed
•Training of research investigators
•Daily oversight of the research activities, data management and supervision of Research Officer and data entry operators
•Ensure accurate data collection including regular site visits
•Ongoing literature search to inform the project
•Create reports and presentations as and when required
•Presentation of research data for written and oral communications, and publications related to the above study
•Prepare and present progress reports to the Core Partners (SC/DML/TAC & Project director) and to act and follow up on their feedback
•Co-ordinate the sharing of research findings between projects
•Build capacity of CINH staff to ask and answer relevant and appropriate questions
•Develop and maintain resource library for CINH projects
•Build an environment which continuosly considers new findings, incorporates new knowledgeinto projects, and seeks to build upon this knowledge
•Represent CINH at state, national and international workshops and seminars
•Membership in relevant research committees on behalf of CINH

Salary Offered: negotiable based on qualification and experience

Minimum Commitment: until July 2008
