Disasters are as old as mankind. Nature is not alone in generating
disasters. Mans ingenuity has seemingly no bounds and ambitious
feats of engineering have led to faster travel, use of nuclear power
etc to improve quality of life. In most cases they have but sometimes
though things do go wrong and cause devastation, which are described
as the Act of God.
Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI)
along with National Institute Disaster Management, Ministry
of Home Affairs, Government of India had organized two Workshops
on Disaster Management during Sep-Oct, 2004 in New Delhi and in Feb
2005 at Hyderabad. Both the workshops were highly appreciated. In continuing
with the task of capacity building through spreading general awareness,
it has been decided to organize next Workshop on Disaster Management,
at Crystal Central Hall of Hotel Taj Palace & Towers, Mumbai on
30 June and 1st July 2005. The Workshop is aimed to sensitize and
hone the response mechanism in administration/ fire services / corporate
sector/ NGOs/ hospitals/ police/ armed forces/citizens etc.
The program is structured to provide an insight into natural disasters
like earthquakes, tsunami and tropical cyclones and manmade disasters
like slum fires, chemical and industrial accidents, national policies,
risk/vulnerability assessment, early warning systems, epidemics, information
technology, corporate sector, ports & light houses, preparedness,
prevention, mitigation, response, monitoring mechanism, organizing relief
operations, evacuation, rehabilitation and reconstruction. Issue of
risk transfer mechanism and construction techniques will also be debated.
Relevant success stories will be deliberated. Experts of National and
International repute are being requested to interact with the participants.
The recommendations of the workshop will be sent to dealing nodal departments
for consideration. A tentative program of the workshop is sent herewith
for your perusal.

to attend the workshop. We can assure you that the participants will
acquire inputs on Disaster Management from some of the best faculty
in India, besides they would be provided latest study material on disaster
