INTERNATIONAL COASTAL CLEAN UP DAY 2005
1. Pollution at sea and
around coastal areas is a major source of environment and
ecological disaster around the world.
Besides pollution from the ships and other marine
crafts, it has been observed that the maximum pollution
is caused by the pollutants through sewage/chemical drains,
by general public living close to the coastal areas and
places such as beaches which are frequently visited by the
public for recreation/relaxation.
With a view to encourage and educate the people in
maintaining a neat and clean environment around coastal
areas and beaches, ‘International Coastal Clean Up Day’
is being observed on Saturday the 17 Sep 2005.
A large number of agencies with in India and all
over the world would be participating in this event. This
headquarters has decided to observe Saturday
the 24 Sep 2005
as the
‘Clean Up Day ’ because of
17 Sep being
the final day for Ganesh immersion ceremony
and since Coast Guard will be involved in providing
sea ward security as well as search & rescue in case
of any eventuality/emergency.
2. Indian Coast Guard
being the nodal agency in our country to provide neat and
clean seas around our maritime zones and coastal areas assumes
greater responsibility in this international event.
Headquarters, Coast Guard Region (W) has planned
number of activities in this regard to assist the civil
authorities, in beach cleaning and spreading awareness among
the general public in keeping the beaches clean and maintaining
a pollution free environment.
All Coast Guard
personnel and civilian employees of Coast Guard AT
Mumbai will participate in the clean up on Saturday the
24 Sep 2005 to make the event a successful. In addition
to this other agencies, NGO’s, school/college students and
local public in ICC-2005 will also be participating.

It is therefore requested that wide publicity of
the event be given at regular intervals till 24th
Sep 2005 through your publications in order to augment our
endeavor to spread awareness among the general public in
keeping the beaches clean and maintaining a pollution free
environment. Any
