LIFE@SPJIMR (Lasting Initiative for Environment) is a student initiative at S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research to create awareness on environmental issues.  

As part of our activities, we had organized an inter school / college competition of making Environment Friendly Ganesha Idols. The competing idols were displayed in an exhibition for the public. The idea was to bring awareness amongst children about things which are bio degradable and also to inform people at large of the various easy and simple ways of making Eco friendly Ganesha idols ahead of the popular festival.  

The highlights of the event

  • 9 participating schools (In and around Andheri)
  • 2 colleges (Bhavan’s Campus)
  • 225 + innovative ways of making eco friendly Ganesha idols
  • 400 + participants
  • Over 1000 public viewers across two days

Purpose of the event

To create awareness amongst students and their parents and the public at large about the harmful impact of non biodegradable Ganesha Idols.

Also, to showcase that eco friendly Ganesha Idols can be made cheaply and in an attractive manner.  

Details of the exhibition

Dates: 03 September 2005 - 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm
04 September 2005 - 10.00 am to 7.00 pm

Place: Cultural Centre, Bhavan’s Campus, Munshinagar, Andheri (W)

Prize Distribution for the Participant: 04 September 2005, 5 – 7 PM

The idols were judged by a group of eminent panelists viz.

1)      Prof. Milind Kulkarni, Professor in Sardar Patel College of Engineering

2)      Ms. V.I. Katchi, Principal, Bhavan’s College

3)      Prof. Ruppal W Sharma, SPJIMR

The same event was organized last year in a smaller scale within the Bhavan’s campus. It received overwhelming response from the students, faculties and surrounding public.
