- 2000 T of this is
construction waste.
- 35% of balance waste by
weight is dry waste i.e. 2000 tons approx.
- and balance is wet waste
(food) i.e. 4000 tons approx.
60% of non-construction waste by volume is dry
waste and handling, storage, landfill space costs are determined by volume.
500 gm waste is generated per person per day (650
gm by rich people, 300 gm by poor) x 5 people / family = 2.5 kg waste / day /
home.
On this basis, lot of things can be calculated --
bin sizes, trucks needed, possible cost savings, etc.
Rs. 140 cr is spent on transporting garbage.
60% people live in slums. Generate 50% of the
garbage.
It takes 30 days in theory to vermi-compost, 45
days in practice. This is needed to calculate pit size.
Mumbai has 1800 km roads - 1200 km are cleaned
daily by BMC staff, 600 km are cleaned daily through outsourcing.
